Funny, tonight I heard this song on TV. As that TV show played out at the end to this song, I couldn't think of another song that linked back through the decades (and that's FIVE now), through the layers of my time here, with as much luminescence as as as this one does.
Okay there are a number of really significant songs. This is one. A five-decade-er. I'm brought back to sunny summers and standing on the front bench seat of my parents' car and AM radio and navy blue pedal pushers. I was four when my parents might have hummed along to this. I'm sure they didn't have the record; I'm sure we only heard it occasionally on the car radio.
What is it that brings the spirit of a song with you through decades? Is it a moment? An internal snapshot? A turning point that somehow led you in the direction to here?
I'm not sure but am thankful for the magic in that memory.
Or the promise.
